Drawing the sound. Part 2

In the last article, I told you about the spectrogram. Everything is clear with it. Let me remind you, a spectrogram is a graphical representation of sound. How to make sense of this image and what can be heard remains to be seen. Let’s go!

Arman offers industrial companies application solutions and makes production facilities safer and more efficient. So don’t be surprised where such a unit comes from.

Facilities have a lot of rotating equipment such as bearings, pumps, electric motors, compressors, presses, gearboxes, and more. And all of it needs periodic diagnostics and maintenance to prevent breakdowns that cause you to lose money.

Few bearings live up to their estimated service life. This is due to poor workmanship, improper lubrication, and aging. Problems can occur even right after installation.

And then the acoustic diagnostician comes into the chat room! SVS already knows how to monitor the bearings!

As I said before, a screenshot of the unit appears here, even two screenshots. The first thing you need to do to monitor the bearings is to establish a baseline. This is done by assessing its normal condition without changing key indicators. (This is shown in screenshot a). Pay attention to the spectrogram and the presence of a “clean” sound environment. If there is a difference in the measurements, this indicates that there is a defect in the bearing (This is shown in screenshot b). On the spectrogram, the deviation is shown as a red band.

Our experimental tests show that frequencies above 6000 Hz usually indicate bearing degradation. The bearing should be checked more frequently and maintenance should begin to be scheduled.

Screenshot b. Not very normal bearing condition Made with SVS (Sound Visualization System)

A spectrogram is a simple tool that helps in the diagnosis and monitoring of industrial equipment.

And that’s all for today!

In the next article, I will tell you about the cases we have managed to solve.
